I was hoping to capture a lightning bolt, or two, in my Canon camera this evening. The elusive lightning won, no bolt was captured tonight. The light after the storm however, was very impressive. Here are a few photos I snapped this evening. Thanks for viewing.
In 1997 the Boston Herald sent columnist Peter Gelzinis and me to cover the 2nd anniversary of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building. We were sent back in 2001 for the moment that Oklahoma City bomber/murderer Timothy McVeigh was executed. While we were there both trips, Peter introduced the Denny family to our readers and to me. You see, Peter had met the Dennys only hours after the actual bombing when he and Herald photographer Matthew West were dispatched to the gruesome scene by Herald editors. In 1995 Rebecca Denny, then age 2 years, and Brandon Denny, then age 3 years, were injured severely when they were trapped inside the building’s day care center. On June 11, 2001, the day that Timothy McVeigh was executed in Terre Haute Indiana, victims and relatives, including the Dennys, marked this moment by attending a solemn ceremony on the now beautiful grounds and memorial of the Murrah federal building’s footprint. Here are some of my photos from that day in 2001. Here also is a piece from CNN that aired today that prominently features Brandon and Rebecca, now juniors in high school.
