The oil tanker Hugli Spirit, anchored in Boston Harbor, alerted the Coast Guard to a medical crisis on board late this morning. The call, as heard on a police scanner, came into Boston police as “the captain of the ship is reportedly having a heart attack”. Boston Fire Dept., the U.S. Coast Guard, Boston EMS, Massachusetts State Police, Environmental Police, Winthrop Police and the Boston Police Harbor Unit all sent boats and personnel, as two ambulances waited on Drydock Ave. First responders borded the ship via a long ladder at the ship’s side. No word on the man’s condition. Below are my photos, mostly made with an 1140mm telephoto lens. Photos made on my shift as a Boston Herald photographer.

I awoke Sunday morning to the realization that the thermometer was actually reading -9 degrees, BELOW ZERO. I knew this could mean sea smoke, a phenomenon that occurs to this extent, maybe once or twice a year. By the time I bundled up to head out to photograph this, the temperature was now -7 degrees, below zero. I went to Winthrop shortly before sunrise. Below is what I saw.InstaCOLD003

A good 72 hours for #Boston weather photography.

Moons, clouds, rainbows and lightning, oh my, A good few days for capturing the natural, near my home in Winthrop,MA. I even managed to get a British Airways Boeing 777, flying from Newark to London, to cross the moon for me, at 7 miles high 🙂

Dog saves family, then is saved by firefighters

Calie, a 7 year old pit bull was called a hero by his owners  Yves Casseus and Wendall Mars, after he would not stop barking as a 3 alarm fire began consuming their Chelsea home. The dog went missing but was found an hour into the fire as the fire continued to roar. The dog was found by Winthrop firefighters searching the 1st floor, and then carried out by Chelsea Duputy Chief Paul J. Eaves.

This photo was snapped from my Winthrop home, out our 3rd floor window, at approximately 7:23pm-ish tonight. Thanks to the internet, one can find out what type of plane, destination, and airline, etc. This is an Atlas Air 747-400. It is going 560mph at 36,000 feet. It is going from JFK-Frankfurt, Germany.
