I photographed this unique scene just before noon today as Somerville firefighters, already below Route 93N for a rollover accident on Mystic Ave., heard this one above them and raised their ladder to access the one car crash. Non life-threatening injuries on both accidents were reported.
I was at the scene today, in Boston’s Fort Point Channel, where a woman somehow ended up in the very chilly water. A Boston police officer jumped into the water, stabilized her, and then waited for Boston firefighters and a police boat to effect a rescue. Boston Herald’s Matt Stout has the story here along with more of my photos and a dramatic video by passerby Hal Munger. Great teamwork by the first responders. Bill Belichick is driven past a waiting press corps by Patriots’ owner Robert Kraft in this 1997 photo. Does it look like a still from the movie The Godfather? The reason I snapped this photo, I think, was to provide Herald coverage after the Pat’s lost the Superbowl. With me, from top left, New England Patriots PR good-guy Stacy James, the Boston Herald’s Michael Felger, Gary Gillis and several other sports media types.
These photos of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page were snapped by me at Boston Garden during the 1st of two shows. I had a blast. Somebody at the Garden let me come back, sans cameras and with a date, the 2nd night. He just said “walk around” for the whole concert. Very memorable!
I was sent to Winthrop as other Boston Herald photographers fanned out to other coastal communities. It was IMPOSSIBLE to keep myself and my camera gear dry and salt water free. I returned home and spent 45 minutes cleaning and drying any sand or salt off my cameras and lenses.
The HMS Bounty sank today in heavy seas caused by Hurricane Sandy. The U.S Coast Guard rescued 15 of the 16 crew members while the replica tall ship’s captain is still missing, according to Reuters and the USCG. When I saw the news reports of this tragedy this morning, the ship’s name sounded familiar. I searched my photo files and found these photos that I snapped in 2009, during Sail Boston.
As the public and several dozen Boston police officers looked on in bright sunshine, a memorial sign honoring slain Boston police detective Roy Sergei was unveiled in the Back Bay today, on the 25th anniversary of his death. Detective Sergei’s wife Maryellen, sister Janet, daughter Michelle, and son Brendan along with Billy Kennedy, the late detective’s patrol partner who was also shot that night, were in attendance as well. I found these guys flying over Larz Anderson yesterday morning and this Hawk dive bombing, and missing, a duck.
This is a bubble from a bubble wand. The weather yesterday, during my Topsfield Fair visit, was dreary, with drizzle and cool weather. It was also fairly dark. We had lots of fun.
