Huge waves, associated with a late season Nor’Easter, crash along Winthrop Shore Drive for a second straight day.
Crazy clouds somewhere between Nebraska and Kansas, a passing jet flying “near” the moon and light shining off a Southwest Airlines wing are just some of the things I spotted last night on a sunset flight from Denver to Boston. Yes, seat 13F on a Boeing 737-700, had alot to offer. All photos snapped with a Canon Powershot G-11.
It really is hard to believe that I snapped this photo seven years ago today. The photograph, shot from Charlestown’s Chelsea Street, really resonated with weather lovers and architecture aficionados alike. The storm was part of a line of heavy thunderstorms moving in from Southern Middlesex County. It seemed to fizzle when it reached me, probably due to the influence of the relatively cold ocean water temperatures. I set up a tripod and positioned myself so that I could get the most flattering angle of the bridge. And then I waited. I always get a bit nervous during these storms as one tends to be a vulnerable target next to a large metal tripod. This photograph made the front of the Boston Herald the next day. Shot with a Canon camera and a 70-200mm F2.8 lens.
Just two days after a massive fire destroyed Cambridge’s Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a worker is seen through the shattered stained glass of the Church at 2 Longfellow Park. He is surveying ways to save the steeple after sunday’s fire devastated the church. Shot with a Canon EOS 1D Mark 111 and a 70-200mm lens.
I had the unenviable assignment yesterday of photographing the all too familiar “clean out yer locker and scram!” day on Causeway Street. The Bruins players were all gentleman as no less than 10 cameras followed their every move, while scribes were asking the two words that all of us wanted answered, that is, what happened? Here are a few photos shot with a Canon EOS Mark 111 camera and a 16-35mm zoom lens. My Herald photo gallery can be seen here.

Just got my Canon Powershot G11. Very cool! It will go nicely with my Canon arsenal that includes both an 800mm and a 14mm lens, Canon EOS 1D Mark11N and Mark111 cameras and many other lens. While all the above serve a specific purpose, this new addition is just plain fun. While I am not going to write an in depth, technical review of this gem, I will give you my first impressions. To begin with it is far more comfortable in one’s hand than Canon’s prior powershots in the G-series, thanks to a newly designed grip. It has better image quality by way of improved noise performance, a 10 megapixel CCD sensor, an image stabilized 28-140mm F2.8-4.5 equivalent zoom lens and a 2.8″ tilt/swivel LCD back. The tilt back is a cool feature that is great when one needs, for instance, to shoot from an unorthodox position like the “hail mary”, where one might have the camera held high above head level. The camera is small, think pregnant cigarette pack, great for those aspiring paparazzi among us. Here are some of my first photos with my new toy. The following were shot at 400ISO speed.

Here are my photos of Tom at an ’08 press conference to support Best Buddies which, according to their website, is an organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In light of revelations that e-mails released yesterday show that some state workers may have felt pressured by the owners of the Patriots and by the Governor’s office to act on a proposed footbridge next to Gillette Stadium, I thought it apropos to show this photo I snapped in March of 2009. I just so happened to stumble on these two powerful men on March 26, 2009. Robert Kraft arrived first and then Governor Patrick for what appeared to be a morning breakfast at “XV Beacon” shortly before 8am. Here, they are seen walking out of the restaurant toward the State House. Photographed for the Boston Herald.
