This photo was snapped from my Winthrop home, out our 3rd floor window, at approximately 7:23pm-ish tonight. Thanks to the internet, one can find out what type of plane, destination, and airline, etc. This is an Atlas Air 747-400. It is going 560mph at 36,000 feet. It is going from JFK-Frankfurt, Germany.
I photographed a Japan Airlines Dreamliner 787 that was experiencing a fuel leak today, one day after a different JAL Dreamliner 787 had a small fire in its cargo belly. Here are my photos as Massport firefighters, officials and a crew from CleanHarbors, work to contain and then clean up the fuel. Stay tuned for any further details on this incident at bostonherald.com.
A United Boeing 777 landed safely at Logan after a smoke smell was reported inside the aircraft. According to police scanner transmissions from Massport fire command, firefighters were investigating the source of the smell. They were then concerned enough, that they asked that a stair car be brought to the plane to take the passengers off that way as there was not a gateway available immediately. After buses and the stair car were positioned, it was decided not to evacuate in that manner. Please see my photos below.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner with Japan Airlines colors and livery markings made it’s inaugural flight from Japan to Boston today. On this foggy day, I snapped photos and captured audio from the Logan air traffic control tower. Here is my slideshow, along with a photo. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner leaves Boston this morning after a 25 hour visit ahead of it’s inaugural U.S service from Boston to Japan, which begins in April. Photographically speaking, there was lots of “heat haze” that did weird things to the plane when it was over the runway. When it climbed high into the sky, the heat haze vanished. Shot with a Canon 800mm and a 1.4 teleconverter. Given the heat haze problems I faced, I think I will choose to not use the 1.4 teleconverter on similar future endeavors.
The Dreamliner arrived a little after 9am Sunday morning, and Massport authorities threw the newest airliner a party. These photos and a small video (link in RED at bottom) show the arrival.
