Here is a short video of Animal Rescue League of Boston personnel, along with City of Boston Animal Control, relocating Boston’s most famous pair of same sex swans, Romeo & Juliet. Anthony Fabiano, a City Animal Control officer and Bill Tanguay and Brian O’Connor of ARL Boston, took only a few minutes to wrap up the two fowl friends. My photos below show the 7th annual Hub On Wheels citywide bike ride, which filled Storrow Drive westbound this morning. According to the sponsoring group’s website, hubonwheels.org, (HOW) was founded in 2005 with three goals: create an important civic event, showcase Boston’s neighborhoods and parks, and raise money for important causes. The routes looped through Downtown, the Back Bay, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Dorchester,and Southie.
The scene in Swampscott today as salvage crews worked along Fisherman’s Beach and other boats sat idle on King’s Beach after washing ashore in yesterday’s storm. See my photos below.
This man, who handed me a business card that read pigeonride.com, was securing his bike to a pole on Hanover St. in Boston’s North End. This is a stuffed or fake pigeon, I’m not sure which, glued to his helmet. I snapped this photo with a Leica M9 and a 24mm Elmarit lens. I thought some might want to see what the damaged Regional Jet CRJ looks like today, several days after it collided with a much larger jet. I snapped these photos late yesterday as the jet was being worked on at Logan. Notice the part of the tail section laying upright on the ground.
I photographed this man who, according to a Cambridge police dispatcher’s radio transmission, stripped and jumped into the water from near the intersection of the Mass. Ave. bridge and Memorial Drive. I caught up with him on the Storrow Drive side where Massachusetts state police troopers were waiting for him.
I photographed this Harp Seal over the weekend. He or she seemed healthy except for a bloated and reddish eye. A biologist at the New England Aquarium says that they are concerned about this seal and have been monitoring it after seeing it in Rockport last week. The aquarium reminds all that the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 prohibits people from getting within 50 feet of any marine mammal and if you see one of these animals, call the aquarium so they can go check it out.
This moment was around 9:30pm tonight. A strong bolt, but I wish my foreground was a bit more interesting. Maybe next time…
100-year-old retired Navy Lt. John Finn, the oldest Medal of Honor recipient from World War II, died Thursday. Here is my photo of John at the Massachusetts State House on November 11 at a Veteran’s Day ceremony as Grace Washburn, a Patriot Guard Rider from North Reading, gives him a lift.
